Tori loves to support her community and is always willing to roll up her sleeves to help get the job done. She is a coach with the Brockville and Area Special Olympics, and is a member of the Brockville Foundation Board, Ottawa Funeral Peer Support Group, and 100 Women Who Care 1000 Islands. Tori enjoys sports and plays Senior A Women's hockey, baseball, and ball hockey, and took up curling this past season. Tori graduated from Humber College Class 1 Funeral Director in 2018, and previously attended Nipissing University.

Melissa Berquist-Gervais, 34

Melissa has been the Program Manager of the Medical & Surgical Inpatient Units at the Brockville General Hospital since 2018, and also works part time as an After Hours Manager for the Brockville Mental Health Centre. Previously, she was the Manager of the Forensic Treatment Unit at the Brockville Mental Health Center. Melissa is a member of the Cross-Fit gym in Brockville, where she has volunteered her time to be a judge on a number of occasions. Throughout her undergraduate degree, Melissa was a Big Sister through Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cornwall. Melissa completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Lawrence College, a Master of Nursing Degree from the University of Southern Queensland, and is currently completing her Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree through the University of Fredericton.

Jonathan Bullock, 30

Jonathan has had a passion for networking and computers from an early age and manages IT for some of the area’s largest firms. After working for HFI Pyrotechnics and newterra, he started his own business in 2017. His unique business model takes care of all technology needs for small to medium sized businesses across Eastern Ontario. He has also partnered with local risk management consulting and HR consulting service companies. Jonathan is on the boards of the Brockville Community Foundation and L&G Approved Professionals Inc, and is on the planning committee for Leadercast. He also has a big heart for animals and volunteers with the Lanark Animal Welfare Services and the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes.

Municipal Councillor, City of Brockville

Leigh Bursey, 32

Leigh is a three-term Brockville City Councillor, and the current Vice President of the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association. He has worked for Cornerstone Landing Youth Services in Lanark County, which combats youth homelessness, and as a Child Protection Support Worker for Family and Children Services of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville, where he worked with displaced youth. Leigh has a passion for community development and helping those who are often marginalized and in need of support. His volunteer experience includes the United Counties of Leeds-Grenville Homelessness Enumeration Steering Committee, Brockville Youth Advisory Committee, and Brockville Pride. He has hosted Critical Thinking on YourTV for nine seasons and performs in the band Project Mantra. Leigh has a diploma in General Arts and Science and a graduate of the local child and youth worker program at St. Lawrence College.

Danielle Culp, 32

Danielle was raised in Brockville and attended Commonwealth Public School and Grenville Christian College before attending Neuchatel Junior College in Switzerland. She received her B.Sc. with honours in Anatomy & Cell Biology from McGill University before moving to Boston University where she graduated with honours from the Doctor of Dental Medicine program. While in Boston, she was the recipient of the Department of General Dentistry Joseph P. Speranza Award and the Department of General Dentistry Outstanding Achievement and Excellence in Patient and Practice Management Award. Danielle is a "Big Sister" to a great "Little Brother" though marriage with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds Grenville. She participates in Boardwalk Dental Care's Annual Charity Day & Bake Sale. Danielle donates free dentistry to the children from Chernobyl every summer as well as the new refugee families to name a few. Danielle completed a Dental Mission Trip to remote locations in Panama and was a volunteer with Dental Education in Kenya. While in high school and during her undergraduate years, Danielle spent countless hours with the Brockville Yacht Club Junior Sailing School passing on her love of sailing.

Shane Curless, 27

Shane has over 5 years experience developing websites and mobile applications. He is a full-time software developer at Fluent Information Management Systems and the lead developer of this company's biggest product, a communication system for firefighters and other first responders called Who's Responding. Fire departments, EMTs, police departments, and search and rescue teams all across the USA and Canada use the system to make informed decisions and get responders where they need to be much quicker than they could with a one-way paging system.

She has a Bachelor’s Degrees in Music (B.Mus.) and Psychology (B.A.) from McMaster University; and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology (M.A.) from the University of Hartford. Her business offers a range of supportive and therapeutic interventions to adolescents and adults that resolve conflicts and enhance relationships.

Sheena Earl, 30

Sheena is an active member of the Brockville community. She has been a Big Sister to young girls with Big Brother Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville, and has volunteered her time on the Distress Line, Community Living, Island Breakfast, the Cardinal Youth Centre, and the Brockville Public Library. Sheena is also a civil ceremony officiant and performing weddings has become a great passion of hers. She has a BA Honours in Political Science with Research Specialization from Laurier University, and is a Masters of Public Administration Candidate at Western University.

Gatto Flowers, Jennifer Harvey Designs, CAFA

Jennifer Harvey, 37

Jennifer Harvey is the current President of the Canadian Academy of Floral Arts (CAFA) and has been in the floral industry for 21 years. She is a columnist for Canadian Florist magazine and writes for several other industry magazines and blogs. She graduated with honors on the Dean’s List from Algonquin College Floral Design Program. She now gives design and motivational seminars and workshops around the world specializing in floral therapy and being authentic in business. Jennifer is a proud mother of two children and donates time and talent to her hometown community by being involved and organizing charity events, school fundraisers and many local organizations that build the future of Brockville.

Corey Henry, 31

Corey ventured into the deep and sometimes dark world of self-employment in 2014 and hasn't looked back since. He is the owner/operator of Ottawa Tasting Tours (a fine-dining progressive experience in the ByWard Market), the Brockville Escape Room, and a new venture Grapes and Grains Beverage Academy where he will offer WSET wine certifications along with fun tasting events and workshops. Corey is a graduate of the Starter Company Program and makes efforts to stay connected with his mentors. He is also the proud recipient of the 2018 Ben TeKamp Memorial Award and was nominated for Best New Tourism Business by Ottawa Tourism in 2016 and 2017. Corey is a current member of the DBIA Economic Development subcommittee, and is always actively seeking ways to engage the community on social media through "park clean-up" campaigns and contests. He regularly donates prizes to various local charity events and was a recent keynote speaker at the February Brockville Women's Network event.

Assistant Manager, Home Depot - Assistant Manager

Quinton Howes, 35

Quinton moved here from Kingston, Ontario, and has first hand experience with poverty. Since that time has passed, he has built himself up as a family man, proud husband, and father of two children. He is a homeowner, a landlord for another property, a community volunteer, and a versatile and enthusiastic assistant manager at our local Home Depot. He is a current board member for the Brockville Non Profit Housing Corporation, and has assisted me (Leigh Bursey) with the #24DollarsAWeekPovertyChallenge for a number of years.  He donates a lot of time and effort to charity, and focuses on helping any way he can through Home Depot's community efforts.

Amanda is a licensed Financial Advisor at O’Farrell Financial Services in Brockville with more than eleven years of experience in the insurance industry. She is passionate about the world of investments and insurance and is dedicated to helping her clients create a financial plan that is right for them. She manages her extensive client base with vigour and passion and demonstrates that investing and financial planning is important at any life stage. A Brockville native, Amanda is a dedicated community member who volunteers with the 30-hour telethon for Palliative Care Services, is a mentor with Starter Company Plus, and is also a member of Brockville Women in Business.

Sarah Laturnus, 37

Sarah is the PR Manager for the Aquatarium and an overall champion of the City of Brockville and the 1000 Islands . She has been involved fundraisers for Ontario SPCA, Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau, Canadian Cancer Society, and Heart and Stroke Foundation. Sarah is a survivor of an autoimmune disorder and participates on a weekly local radio segment promoting the Aquatarium.

Senior Scientist, Advonex International Corporation

Sun Lee, 34

Born and brought up in South Korea, Sun completed her undergraduate and Master of Science in Chemistry at Seoul National University of Science and Technology and then immigrated to Canada to pursue graduate education. She gained admission to the PhD program at Brock University where she very rapidly learned English and applied her research skills to organometallic chemistry.  After a short time as a post-doc at the University of Guelph, she joined Advonex and has moved into a leadership position as a Senior Scientist. Not only does she have a strong grasp of the company's technology, but she has also become a technical spokesperson for the company and gives presentations at conferences, assists with marketing, and interacts with customers and investors. Sun is also a volunteer with the local science fair program and mentors students.

Andrew Levesque, 26

Andrew has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and Business Diploma from St. Lawrence College Brockville. He has worked in mental health and addictions, and started a church and community gathering space. During his time at SLC he was the VP Finance for the Student Administrative Council and took part in the College Student Alliance of Ontario, helping shape legislation and post-secondary student rights. He also sat on the Downtown Brockville Board and runs weekly service out of Venture, which is expanding to create room for hosting community meeting groups at a downtown site. Andrew is also a chaplain for hospital visitation.

Denise was an after-sales consultant for Mattamy Homes and Monarch Homes in Ottawa. She’s been a Decorating Den franchise owner since 2014 and opened a design studio retail location in Brockville in 2017 that offers full service design and decorating. She is a graduate from the Interior Design Program at Fanshawe College, London, ON. Denise is an active committee member of Brockville Winter Classic, was the top fundraiser for the 2017 Classic, and sponsors a local youth hockey team to attend the event. She also sponsors a youth soccer team at the Brockville Soccer Club.

Shannon Liscumb, 36

Shannon is a graduate of Brock University (BAH) and has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa. She is currently the Director of Operations at CSE Consulting, where she has worked for the past 9 years, managing all operational aspects of the business. While at CSE she pursued her Rehabilitation Specialist of Career Management Professional Program through Yorkville University. This opportunity has supported her other role at CSE as ODSP Employment Supports Program Supervisor, supporting persons with disabilities map their journey to successful, employment. Shannon is a lifelong learner and currently pursuing her Career Development Practitioner (CDP) certification. For the past 10 years Shannon has been a volunteer with Brockville Area Community Living Association (BACLA). She has volunteered as stage crew for their "Smile & Company" theatre performances, and continues to have a very special one-to-one friendship with a BACLA client, enjoying such activities as going to the movies, Brockville Arts Centre performances, dinner and shopping outings. She has received a 5 Year Volunteer Service Award through Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration (2014), as well as BACLA's Volunteer of the Year Award (2015).

Kendra advocates for our community needs in a professional and well-informed way with the city of Brockville. She volunteers with several organizations and events, including the Island Breakfast committee (5 years), Brockville and Area Community Foundation (2 years), and the Tall Ships Festival, and she also designed and ran the pop-up escape room fundraiser for the Brockville Public Library. She is an advocate for youth engagement with the city.

Suphattra is a self-trained chef and entrepreneur. She has been in business for a decade as the owner and operator of restaurants in Ottawa, Kemptville, and Brockville. She frequently donates her time, skills, and food to various fundraisers and events, including the Brockville General Hospital foundations fundraiser, Brockville Museum, United Way, and the Fulford Museum.

She is an inspiring leader in her working career and an involved volunteer with many organizations, including the Brockville Theatre Guild (1991 - present), Wall Street United Church (1996 - present), Tall Ships Festival (2013 & 2016), and Brockville Riverfest (2004 - 2012).

Rachael Mathieson, 29

Rachael started with Revera, a seniors retirement living company, a little over seven years ago as a newly graduated registered practical nurse from Algonquin College. In her short time with Revera she has worked her way up in the company, from charge nurse, to Assistant Director of Health and Wellness at the Westwood Retirement Residence in Ottawa, to Director of Health and Wellness at Bridlewood Manor here in Brockville. In the five years since being transferred back to her hometown, Rachael has managed to be made the Interim Executive Director before taking on the role full time. Rachael takes an active role in her community. While on Maternity leave she became a volunteer through Hike it Baby, a local organization encouraging families to get outdoors and experience nature in a social, inclusive setting where she would host family walks and hikes around the community. She volunteers her time to local charities helping in any way she can, from the palliative care telethon, to assisting in fundraisers to support local families.

Kaleigh is a very competent NP who always goes above and beyond for patients and co-workers.  She has also successfully developed and implemented health promotion and disease prevention programs, and assisted in the development and implementation of the NutriStep Screening Tool for nutritional screening of young children. She holds an MSc Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner from Queen's University completed the nationally recognized Certified Health Executive Program. She is also a certified lactation consultant.  Kaleigh is actively involved in the Every Kid in Our Community Committee and the LGCFHT Quality Committee.

Founder, Endometriosis and Me

Kristen McRobie, 30

Kristen started Endometriosis and Me in 2012 to provide support, spread awareness, and advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Endometriosis affects 1 in every 10 women worldwide. Even though this disease affects so many, there is a lack of education about it and it takes up to 10 years to properly diagnose. The organization’s Facebook page has grown to 100k followers. Endometriosis and Me runs an awareness event in Kingston every year.

Andrew Melchers, 31

Andrew is a Structural Engineer and Sole Proprietor of IN Engineering, a local engineering firm that is committed to providing professional engineering services as well as contributing back to the community. Currently, he is assisting three community groups with professional engineering and building design for their projects: Five Mile Light Rebuild, Rotary Park Change Rooms and Zamboni Garage, and Rotary Field House and Splash Pad. He is a Lieutenant at The Brockville Rifles currently serving as a platoon commander with the Army Reserve. He is the Director of Memberships for Rotary Brockville and volunteers with Heritage Place Lyn, helping with programming and website maintenance for the museum and Facebook page. Andrew is a father of two girls, Adley and Ayla.

Elisabeth Meyer, 37

Elisabeth is the program manager for the Youth Job Connection Program and Inclusive Employment Program at the Employment and Education Centre. She finds youth with barriers and people with developmental disabilities jobs and assists them with moving forward in their lives. In addition, she is involved in overseeing a project that involves virtual reality and how it can assist in career decision making and job preparation.  Her educational background is Marketing Communications. Elisabeth is highly involved with the schools in the community and works with many local employers on educating them about Brockville’s youth.

Harrison has been an entrepreneur since he was 15. He started a landscaping business and built it up for 6 years while going to school full time. He then sold it as he started his current business in virtual reality. He specializes in developing practical education based experiences with VR and augmented reality technologies. His business has branched out from Toronto through Eastern Ontario and is still growing. Harrison has volunteered his time with Stingers after school program, Education career services, and other places downtown Brockville. He has brought VR into schools and retirement homes, bringing elderly people to Mount Everest without even leaving Brockville.

Bailey Pakenham, 32​

Bailey works with youth with barriers to ensure they are able to sustain employment, and gain valuable work experience and life skills.  Bailey's success in this role has led other Employment Agencies to choose to model her approach and style. She also works a second job with LLGAMH as a Rehabilitation Crisis Worker, supporting Mental Health initiatives for clients and in community. Bailey has a University Degree in Psychology and College Diploma in Social Service Work.

Dana has been a Realtor since 2010 in Brockville and the surrounding areas. She is the Broker of Record at one of the prominent real estate firms in Brockville (Sutton Essential Realty), where she has improved her sales year over year for her entire career and in 2018 sold 40 houses. She is on parent council and the Safe and Accepting Schools committee at Toniata Public School, where her daughter Audrey Merkley is in Grade 1. She is also a member of the Brockville 100 Women Who Care.

Jesse Perrin, 35​

Having purchased Green Things Landscaping, Jesse continues the tradition of providing a high quality, value-adding landscape service. Highly respected by his peers in the industry, Green Things Landscaping was presented with a Provincial Award of Excellence for residential landscape construction. He is a leader in representing, promoting and fostering a favourable climate for the advancement of the horticulture industry in Ontario, recently becoming the President of the Upper Canada Chapter of Landscape Ontario. Continuing on this commitment to customers, Mosquito.buzz was added in 2017 to professionally treat mosquitoes and ticks. Jesse has been deeply committed to and involved in the local community and donates company resources to volunteer programs, sponsorships of events and organizations, and gifts to charity.

Madelyn is a recipient of the Ben TeKamp Memorial Award and Elizabethtown/Kitley Rookie Business of the Year. She has a BA from Carleton University, and is a graduate of the Humber College Funeral Services Program with distinction. She served as Vice President of Funeral Services student board at Humber. She has been involved on the committee for the Brockville Lions Music Festival for 6 years and counting, volunteered with the Tall Ships Festival, involved with the Brockville Community Choir in a leadership position for 5+ years, and has volunteered in both high school and elementary school music projects over the years.

Great Waterway Hearing

Thomas Pilla, 30​

Tommy graduated with distinction from Conestoga College as a Hearing Instrument Specialist. He is certified as a member in good standing with The Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners of Ontario. After recognising the lack of accessible service in the Hearing Healthcare Industry in the community, Thomas partnered to open Great Waterway Hearing. Innovatively bringing a fully mobile hearing assessment and hearing aid dispensing service to clients in their home or retirement residence. These clients would otherwise be unable to access hearing healthcare services. In three years, the business has since grown into three hearing clinics between Brockville, Morrisburg, and Smiths Falls - all offering the same accessible mobile services as well as offering the latest in-clinic hearing aid assessment and hearing aid technology to clients from the Rideau Canal to the St. Lawrence River. The company was nominated for The Ben TeKamp Memorial Award in 2016.

Lauren graduated with distinction from the business program at St. Lawrence College in 2018. She was selected to be the Valedictorian and was the recipient many other awards including: President’s List Award, Faculty Choice Award, and Strong Work Ethic Award (SAC). She held a position on the Student Administrative Council at SLC as the Vice President of Finance. In her career, she has found an impactful position as a Partnership Consultant at Shop4Charity. Lauren is passionate about giving back to the community and has taken many opportunities to give back, including hosting a movie night fundraiser for the local Impact HUB - Youth Initiative, leading a company-wide National Cupcake Day incentive to support the Local OSPCA, and volunteering for community organizations such as Loaves & Fishes, Canadian Aid for Chernobyl, and Earth Day Community Clean-ups.

Jessica has worked as a professional in the finance industry for over 10 years, receiving her license from Real Estate and Mortgage Institute of Canada. She began working for Martel Mortgages at the age of 26 and eventually purchased the company alongside her business partner in 2013. Jessica is the two-time recipient of the Women of Influence Award (2016-2017), and received the Mortgage Excellence Award for Volume of Business through a new partnership created with Oriana Financial.  She has assisted over 800 clients over the past 10 years in Brockville.

April Richer, 30​

With her Fine Arts and Business education, April was able to co-partner a painting company from the ground up while a student in Red Deer, Alberta. Upon completion of her studies, she returned home to Brockville with her new painting company ‘Rocket Richer’s Painting’ as a sole owner and operator. April is a great example of an entrepreneur who takes great pride in her work and her company every day. She has recently become a sponsor of Trucking for a Cure - a non-profit organization whose focus is to drive out cancer by raising funds and awareness. April participates in many charity race events and has donated painting services to both new build construction and renovations for Habitat for Humanity.

Orlando Spicer, 32​

Orlando has been building a career in the real fstate industry since 2010 when he purchased his first investment property and became a property manager. He started his career at LG Realty and named the Young Professional of the Year by the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce. He then became a broker at Royal Lepage ProAlliance Realty, and property manager at River City Property Management. He was then presented with an opportunity to become the Broker of Record at the brand new Real Estate Brokerage in town, Exit Realty Brockville. Orlando has been a community activist since returning to Brockville after university. He has been on the Board of Directors for the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce and United Way, was the Chair of the Young Professionals Network, and a member of the inaugural Brockville Winter Classic Committee and remains a member of the committee to this day. Along the way he has organized charity BBQs for various causes, recruited sponsors for various charity events, and supported community initiatives throughout Brockville.

Greg Stilnovich, 38​

Greg is the Controller for Ketchum Manufacturing Inc. He graduated from the University of Ottawa with honours in commerce and an option in finance. He began his career working in banking for TD. After deciding to make a career as an accountant, Greg started to study for the Chartered Professional Accounting designation. After five years of studying and courses, Greg got his CPA designation in 2018. He also co-owns and manages a 5-unit apartment building. Greg volunteers with Big Brothers and Sisters of Leeds and Grenville as a Big Brother to local youth.

William Thomson, 29​

William Started Tech Tutors in a spare bedroom in 2014. The business is now located at 16 Central Avenue East and offers full computer services for the community and specializes in training to help make people’s interaction with technology easier and less stressful. In 2014, William Thomson saw the need for youth in area to have a positive male influence and the opportunity to play the sport he loves. He reached out the business community to donate gear and started a ball hockey club at the Bartholomew housing complex. For the next 3 years, the group grew and it became one of Willam’s favourite parts of the week. He knew all the children by name but was mostly known to them as "Ball Hockey Guy", which he didn’t mind at all.

After completing her bachelor’s degree, Haley discovered (and fell in love with) Brockville and secured a job locally as the event coordinator with Downtown Brockville.  Just a year and a bit into the job, Haley has fully embraced the role and her new home and is a wonderful ambassador for our community. Looking for ways to get more involved in her adopted home, Haley enthusiastically joined the Brockville Museum’s Board of Management in late 2018.  As the youngest member of the board (probably ever), Haley demonstrates professionalism, enthusiasm, and a willingness to do whatever is needed and to offer her up her services at every opportunity. She has already demonstrated herself as an amazing asset to the museum.

Manager, Healthy Pets Boutique

Kristen White, 27​

Kristen has been with Healthy Pets for two years as the full-time store manager, with duties ranging from customer service and sales to inventory management, cash management and ordering. Customers love her as she is passionate about her work. She is also in touch with representatives from all their brands and responsible for research of any new brands they wish to bring in. She focuses on providing the best experience she can for anyone that comes in with questions or hoping for advice. Kristen also works closely with local rescues providing them with food and working on exposure opportunities. Kristen is also studying nutrition.

Curator/Director, Brockville Museum

Natalie Wood, 35​

Natalie obtained a degree in History and pursued her passion in the museum field working at a number of museums in the Kingston area.  During this time she pursued additional training, obtaining a Certificate in Museum Studies. She relocated to Brockville six years ago to take on the role of Curator/Director at the Brockville Museum. During her tenure at the museum she has helped lead the museum through tremendous change, including the introduction of an online collection database and the redevelopment of almost all of the museum’s exhibits, leading to a dramatic 57% increase in museum visitation since she started. During this time she also completed the Municipal Administration Program in order to enhance her training in municipal governance. In addition to all the extra volunteer time she contributes to the museum, Natalie recently ended a six-year appointment to the Ontario Trillium Foundation as a grant review team member. Since ending that appointment, Natalie has turned her attention to the Tourism Advisory Committee.  Natalie demonstrates pride in her adopted home, sharing positive vibes about Brockville on social media, never shying away from promoting the amazing lifestyle Brockville has to offer.
