Our newest Brockville YPN feature is Brock Tufts! New to Brockville, you'll hear Brock on 103.7 BOB FM.
1. In 280 characters or less, tell us what you do.
I am the Morning Show Host at 103.7 BOB FM in Brockville. I just moved to the area and am so excited to be a part of the community. Joining the Board of Directors at the YPN is a great way to get to know Brockville! Most Friday nights you’ll catch me at whatever local pub has live music. I’m a major sports fan, go Jays and Leafs!
2. Why Brockville?
Brockville looked like a great place to start my career. I’m originally from down the road in Belleville, so there are a lot of similarities. I went to school and worked part time for Bell Media in Ottawa so when they offered me this position down here it was a no brainer!
3. What is most important right now, to you as a young professional?
My focus right now is being a part of the community. Bruce Wylie (104.9 JR FM Morning Show Host) has done such a great job at helping this community to what it is today. As the Morning Show Host on 103.7 BOB FM, I want people to be able to listen to my voice in the morning and it be familiar to them.
4. If you could give any piece of advice to 17-year old you, what would it be?
Have fun and keep having fun. At 17, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life, now at 20 years old I feel confident in the path I’ve chose. 17 is an awesome time to be social, have a good time, play as much hockey as possible (in my case) and just enjoy not having to pay for rent or food yet!
5. What’s your most visited website/social media page?
I spend a lot of time on all social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat…my most visited is probably Twitter. I find it can be a great source for everything from news to sports or if you just need a laugh. Instagram is up there as well. (Follow me: @brocktufts)
6. Do you have any advice for other YP’s hoping to get into your field/career?
Make connections! The only reason I was lucky enough to get a job out of school was because I worked at building relationships and networking. Every chance you get to grab someone’s email or phone number, do it and stay in touch!
7. What hidden gem of/in Brockville would you love to share with others?
There are so many. I have been pleasantly surprised at how much there is to do here. It’s a gorgeous city with a lot to offer. I would say anything on the shore of the St. Lawrence is worth checking out. There are lots of awesome pubs and restaurants. Also, visiting craft breweries are a must!
