Over the past few weeks, we have held open houses with both MP Gord Brown and MPP Steve Clark. We wanted to share with our local representatives what matters most to young professionals. Both events had a mixed group of attendees, with various professional backgrounds. The conversations were interesting, insightful, and thought-provoking. Here’s a summary of each of the conversations.
Open House with MPP Steve Clark
The current Ontario PC leadership race
Homeownership and first time home buyer’s credits
Childcare and the economic pressures on parents
Continuing education and professional development opportunities, especially regarding language learning
Arts and culture and the need for stable and fair funding for both, especially in rural communities
Open House with MP Gord Brown
The new security committee Mr. Brown is sitting on
Engaging young people and young professionals in politics
NAFTA and the effects on agriculture and geo-politics
The coming marijuana legislation
Continuing skill development for young professionals
Issues of consent and women’s choice
At the conclusion of each discussion, both Mr. Clark and Mr. Brown assured those present that consultations and open discussion will continue in the future. Thanks to both parliamentarians and the young professionals who attended!
